HONOR BANDS
I strongly encourage Cooley's advanced student musicians to audition for local honor bands. Over the past several years (since 2000) Cooley has had numerous students audition and get accepted into these highly competitive bands. Both the auditioning process as well as participating in these bands can be a great learning experience for the student.

Middle School Honor Band
The
Middle School Honor Band is open to any current 7th and 8th grader willing to audition. The Audition consists of recording predetermined scales and piece of music. The list of scales, pieces and recording instructions are available here:

The CMEA 6th Grade Honor Band participants are chosen by director choice. Several factors can determine who may be sent to the 6th grade honor band including, number of check-offs, amount of practice records, grades, behaviour, concert attendance, jazz band participation, etc.

Middle School Honor Jazz Band
This will be in first year for the
CMEA Cap Section Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Josh Murray from Rio Americano High School
. The Audition consists of recording predetermined scales, a few chart excerpts in various jazz styles and an optional improvisation over a predetermined chart. The list of scales, downloadable chart excerpts and recording instructions are available here:

CBDA Middle School Honor Band
